Health

Fragmented healthcare system with little to no communication between providers. 83% of the population is uninsured while 30% receive no health care at all.

High maternal and infant mortality due to malnutrition, dehydration, poor water quality, infection.

Communicable diseases including sexually transmitted infections, TB, malaria, leishmaniasis, and Chagas’ disease. Increasing rates of cancer, diabetes, and hypertension are also being seen.

Acute respiratory infections and acute diarrhea with dehydration are leading causes of mortality in children.

Poor access to clean water and adequate sanitation.
